Maria a Cana, icona della misericordia che previene

Summary

Mary's words at Cana: «They have no more wine» (Jn 2, 3) are, among other things, an epifany of her "compassion" (cf LG n. 58). She comes to the assistance of all who are in need. Doing so, Mary reveals herself as the Daughter of Israel, her people. Precisely because the Lord came to the assistance of as a «compassionate and merciful» God (Es 34, 6), Israel is called to be a "compassionate and merciful" people towards the poor, the stranger, the orphan, the widow. A particular aspect of this maternal tenderness of God will be revealed on the final day, in the resurrection of the dead, when «[...] he will eliminate death forever [...] and he will dry the tears from every face» (Is 25, 8).Mary, flower of Israel, inherits this merciful compassionate style in dealing with her sons and daughters (cf Jn 19, 26-27); and "Assumed" into heavenly glory with her Risen Son; «[...] she shines forth before the Pilgrim People of God as a sign of sure hope and consolation» (LG n. 68).

Riassunto

Le parole di Maria a Cana: «Non hanno più vino» (Gv 2,3) sono, tra l'altro, epifania della sua “compassione” (cf LG n. 58). Ella previene quanti si trovano in necessità. Così facendo, Maria si rivela figlia di Israele, suo popolo. Israele, in effetti, proprio perché è stato soccorso dal Signore, suo Dio, che è «compassionevole e misericordioso» (Es 34,6), è chiamato ad essere a sua volta un popolo “compassionevole e misericordioso” verso il povero, lo straniero, l'orfano, la vedova. Un aspetto particolare di questa tenerezza materna di Dio si rivela nel giorno della risurrezione finale dai morti, quando «[...] eliminerà la morte per sempre [...] asciugherà le lacrime su ogni volto» (Is 25,8). Maria, fiore di Israele, eredita questo stile di misericordia compassionevole verso i suoi figli e figlie (cf Gv 19,26-27). E anche come “Assunta” alla gloria celeste del Figlio Risorto dai morti, «[...] brilla ora innanzi al pellegrinante Popolo di Dio quale segno di sicura speranza e di consolazione» (LG n. 68).
