The “other” as a full human being: an urgent need for mutual respect, following in the foothsteps of Richard Sennett
in Rivista di Scienze dell'Educazione 59(2021)2, p. 274-293.

Summary

The London sociologist Richard Sennett, in his essay Respect in a World of Inequality, offers a unique reflection on speaking about the “subject,” beginning with “respect” and developing the complicated relation between society and character, autonomy and dependence, solidarity and compassion, and finally, between subjects and educational institutions. A mapping of anthropological space emerges, beginning from a path of recognizing the other - different and foreign - “as a full human being,” unique and concrete, and necessary for the actualization of one’s Self.

Key words

Training, interculturality, mutual respect, personality, social educator.
