Along with its foundational goals of training and research by its faculty and students, it is committed to communicating and promoting pedagogical formation to sustain a culture of life. It understands its cultural mission as a presence "in the service of thought" in "pastoral care of the culture" and in "intellectual charity"; it offers its services in the "territories" in which it functions as a cultural reference centre for the study and promotion of education policies.

Il volume è uno studio interpretativo del pensiero pomiliano sul cristianesimo visto come “profezia”. Si tratta di un concetto che non trova in Pomilio un’intenzionale e organica espressione: solamente in Scritti Cristiani, rilevando la fondamentale alterità fra cristianesimo e cultura, egli giunge ad affermare che “il cristianesimo è profezia”. Eppure tale concetto non ha origine in quest’opera, anzi si può dire che vi confluisca soltanto, arricchendosi, rispetto alla precedente produzione pomiliana, di ulteriori riflessioni. Interrogato in proposito dalle Autrici, Pomilio stesso è in qualche modo condotto a riscoprire e ad esprimere le linee lungo le quali si è venuta svolgendo una lunga e faticosa maturazione verso questo approdo. L’idea di un cristianesimo che si inserisce vitalmente nel dinamismo della Parola, continuando a reinverarla esplicitandone la verità nell’oggi, segna l’orientamento del pensiero pomiliano a partire da Il Quinto Evangelio: la metafora della secolare ricerca di un quinto evangeloinedito altro non è che l’espressione artistica di quell’idea.
