Pedagogy and Didactics of Religion
Presentation
The Master's Degree or Licentiate course in Pedagogy and Didactics of Religion trains teachers to teach the Catholic religion in schools of all levels and types.
Students coming from other universities may request recognition of university exams. Working students with professional and voluntary experience may request validation of their internship by submitting the required documentation.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course of study, graduates must demonstrate:
- to have acquired knowledge and skills in biblical and theological, historical and legal, psychopedagogical, methodological and teaching, organisational, interpersonal and communication disciplines required to teach religion;
- knowledge of how to interpret and evaluate the contribution of Christianity to the development of human civilisation, including in dialogue with other religious and cultural traditions;
- knowledge of how to interpret the religious aspect of school subjects, the religious symbols present in the environment and the religious dimension of culture;
- the ability to translate the scientific knowledge gained into teaching practice;
- the ability to develop projects and training pathways based on Christian culture that involve multi-cultural and multi-religious dialogue and dialogue with non-believers;
- a knowledge of how to develop teaching aids for the teaching of the Catholic religion;
- the ability to assess and evaluate learning processes and outcomes and the quality of educational operations;
- the capacity to communicate effectively and with the appropriate language the contents and the particular values present in the religious and cultural traditions of different peoples;
- to know and use a foreign language correctly.
Career opportunities
At the end of the course of study, graduates can find work as:
- teachers of religious education in every type and level of school;
- lecturers for in-service training courses and for continuing education;
- educators of aspects of religion for the new generations;
- qualified youth ministry workers paying particular attention to the educational mission of the school;
- tutors for internships related to the teaching of the Catholic religion.
Teaching and Learning
The Master’s Degree course covers two years, during which 120 ECTS credits must be obtained. To obtain the necessary credits to graduate students must carry out the required training activities (courses, seminars and workshops) and an internship, as stated in the study programme.

Degree recognition
The Licentiate and PhDs of the Pontifical Faculty of Educational Sciences «Auxilium» are of pontifical right. For civil purposes, the degrees are valid in accordance with the laws in force in the various countries and the particular rules of each University.
- Licenza in Pedagogia e Didattica della Religione rilasciata dalla Pontificia Facoltà di Scienze dell’Educazione «Auxilium» di Roma, è riconosciuta come titolo valido in Italia per l’insegnamento della religione cattolica nelle scuole pubbliche di ogni ordine e grado, in conformità all’Intesa firmata il 28 giugno 2012 tra il MIUR e la CEI, recepita con D.P.R. 20 agosto 2012, n. 175.
Tale riconoscimento è confermato anche dal Decreto Ministeriale n. 70 del 24 luglio 2020, art. 1, che include tra i titoli validi la Licenza in Scienze dell’Educazione con specializzazione in "Pedagogia e Didattica della Religione" e in "Catechetica e Pastorale Giovanile", secondo l’elenco trasmesso dalla CEI; - Licenza in Catechetica e Pastorale Giovanile rilasciata dalla Pontificia Facoltà di Scienze dell’Educazione «Auxilium» di Roma, è parimenti riconosciuta per l’insegnamento della religione cattolica, previa integrazione di alcune discipline specifiche, come indicato nella Nota MIUR prot. N. 2989 del 6 novembre 2012.
Admission requirements
They can enroll in the Master's Degree (or Licentiate) Course those who have obtained the Bachelor's Degree (or Baccalaureate) in Religious Education, or a Degree recognized as equivalent with accreditations properly assessed.

Attendance
La frequenza agli insegnamenti e alle attività programmate nel proprio curricolo è obbligatoria.
Qualora le assenze superino un terzo del totale delle ore di un insegnamento o attività lo Studente non può sostenere il relativo esame.
